Some Form Of Basic Health Insurance Is Better Than No Cover At All

If you are having problems making ends meet you may well have decided to skimp on medical insurance and you are definitely not alone because a lot of people do not have any sort of health cover. To their way of thinking, they can't really make the case for paying the additional money it would require.

But, is this really a sensible idea today? In the vast majority of cases it may be an awful mistake. When you look at the way that medical costs are climbing every year even some of the most basic of care could cost thousands of dollars.

Let's say for instance that you've been putting off getting medical insurance. You do not really believe that you can afford to pay for anything extra out of your account each month and so you just put it off.

Then one day you're on your way home from work when someone pulls right out in front of you and you forced to swerve to miss them. In doing so you leave the road and run into a tree. Then, the other driver keeps on driving simply because they are frightened. Not surprisingly, you sustain several injuries and need to be taken to hospital.

You are of course really in no position to pick and choose whether you wish to have life saving procedures performed on you after an accident. The emergency room staff just do what needs to be done and you will get the bill later. Naturally, spending any amount of time in an emergency room is not exactly conducive to saving money. So, in our example, the hospital presents you with a bill for about $50,000 for services they performed.

This means that, instead of paying a couple of hundred dollars per month for health insurance, you're saddled with a bill that you'll possibly never be able to pay. And, when you owe money to a hospital, they are going to send out bill collectors and will in time sue you. You could have to declare yourself bankrupt and your credit rating will be stained forever. In fact, your whole life could be altered negatively in this case.

Some sort of affordable medical insurance coverage is better than having no medical insurance coverage at all. Accidents like this happen each day and, if you possess some form of health insurance, your insurer will be able to save your bacon. Instead of you being stuck with a bill which you cannot pay you will have somebody who is going to take care of it.

You'll almost certainly be required to pay something towards the cost but it will be much more manageable with help from the insurer. If you've put off purchasing some kind of health insurance then don't put it off any longer. Do not talk yourself into believing that it's not worth buying cover unless you are able to buy an expensive package with all the features.

Start out small with just the basic features needed in case of emergency and, then as you start to get more comfortable with your bills, slowly upgrade the cover to get the features you want. It will not appear to be such a large bite out of your paycheck if you do it slowly.

Health insurance is not something which you can afford to live without so don't be afraid to speak to someone about the options open to you. There is only one way to find out what you can afford and that is to ask. For the majority of people meeting the cost of medical care without health insurance is quite simply not a viable option.
